The First Session

The first counseling session can be scary sometimes, especially when you are unsure of what to expect. During my first session with a client, I like to focus on us getting to know one another. We discuss my procedures for my practice and my approach to therapy. Clients will complete some basic paperwork about what brings them to counseling and what they can expect from the counseling process. I like to spend the rest of the session listening to the client’s story as well as any questions or concerns. We conclude by discussing some basic ideas for goals that we both believe could be helpful.
